![]() By: Joanna Campbell Slan A Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery #1
SUMMARY
Every scrapbook tells a story. Memories of friends, family . . . Mousy housewife Kiki Lowenstein has two great loves: scrapbooking and her young daughter, Anya. But her happy family album is ruined when her husband, George, is found naked and dead in a hotel room. As Kiki tracks down George's murderer, she discovers his sordid secret life. Cruel taunts by George's former flame compel Kiki to spout an unwise threat. When the woman is murdered, Kiki's scissor-sharp words make her the prime suspect. She could be creating scrapbook keepsakes for the rest of her life-behind bars. Supported by her loyal friends, along with a little help (and a lot of stomach flutters) from the dashing Detective Detweiler, can Kiki cut the true killer out of the picture and design a new life for herself and Anya? Includes expert scrapbooking tips and techniques, and a coupon for free Snapfish photos! REVIEWS "A well-turned cozy with loads of scrapbooking tips." "Scrapbookers will love the whole idea of forensic scrapbooking and will relish the tips on the craft sprinkled throughout the story." "Paper, Scissors, Death is not what I would call a typical cozy. While the premise fits the format, the seriousness of the characters goes well beyond that. Joanna Campbell Slan really has a strong voice and her characters have great depth. Kiki Lowenstein is a scrapbooker, and while Slan does this with authenticity she also has a knack for realism that makes this border on medium boiled. For my money I think that this takes the amateur sleuth a few steps further than I’ve seen done in a while. With plotting as tight as the seal of a decompression chamber and a flow to the narrative that is as smooth as silk this is a wonderful read. A September release from Midnight Ink. More please.” “A proper pacy mystery with plenty of tension (and red herrings) that kept me guessing to the end.” “Paper, Scissors, Death is not only an engaging mystery—it also gave this die-hard non-scrapbooker some idea why scrapbooking fans find their hobby so addictive.” “Hold tight, mystery lovers, a new sleuth has arrived with a glue gun in one hand and a matte knife in the other. Settle in for a fast-paced adventure as the engaging Kiki Lowenstein solves a murder right off the pages of her family scrapbook. Joanna Campbell Slan puts mystery on the scrapbook page, right where it belongs.” “Charming, funny and very enjoyable! Slan combines mystery, romance, suspense, and humor in this wonderful debut, and her scrapbooking heroine Kiki Lowenstein is a real cut-up.” “Paper, Scissors, Death is charming, clever, witty, and exciting—with a cliff hanger at the end!” “You’ll love Kiki Lowenstein! A spunky, down-on-her luck widow with a young daughter to raise, she’s not going to let a murderer get away with, well…murder!” “Paper, Scissors, Death is a page turner, who-done-it, filled with colorful characters and scrapbooking tips. The plot line races along as Kiki, a personable if unlikely heroine, struggles to take care of both herself and her daughter while dealing with death, betrayal, and injustices. Along the way the story is filled with insightful glimpses into the heart of a true scrapbooker and a touch of romance.” “Joanna Slan's Paper, Scissors, Death should be required reading for any scrapbooker who loves to dive into a good mystery. Liberally spiced with plenty of local St. Louis flavor, and generously sprinkled with insider's insights into the world of scrapbooking, Paper, Scissors, Death is rich with details from both communities. If you like mysteries, quirky characters, and scrapbooking, you will love this book.” “What a treat to find a plucky new heroine in Kiki Lowenstein, who dispenses advice on scrapbooking along with solving her faithless husband’s death in Joanna Slan’s debut novel, Paper, Scissors, Death? This is an author to watch!” “Joanna Campbell Slan's debut novel is a rare gem…[and] creative scrapbooking tips are woven expertly throughout!" “Sign me up for Tough Tamales U. Paper, Scissors, Death is a fun and charming read with a scrappy heroine.” "Ms. Slan's debut mystery has a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, sure to keep readers coming back for the next book. Pick this one up if you love scrapbooking or cozies." "Fun to read, with laugh-out-loud humor along with tensions and true friendships."
