SUMMARY

A movie producer hurtles to his death from the top of the Golden Gate Bridge, an apparent suicide that shocks the film community and puts a two hundred million dollar production in jeopardy.

His colleague, Grace, doesn't believe it was suicide and turns to private detec-tive Cape Weathers to find the truth. To solve the case, Cape and his friend Sally–an assassin raised by the Triads–take on the Russian mob, a major movie studio, and a recalcitrant police department by enlisting the help of rogue cops, computer hackers, and an investigative journalist who just doesn't give a damn. But with a sniper on their trail, the challenge will be staying alive long enough to find out the truth.

Praise for Stealing the Dragon

" . . . Maleeny gives readers a fresh and fast take that enthralls." –Crimespree

"Tough, original, compelling–a perfect thriller debut." –Lee Child, New York Times bestselling author of The Hard Way

REVIEWS

"The snappy writing and a parallel plot of drug-dealing Italian and Chinese mobsters keeps the pace lively and will resonate with Elmore Leonard fans."

--Publishers Weekly

"Maleeny has kept the promises made with Stealing the Dragon. With an obvious understanding of the traditions of crime fiction, he has created a series that tips the hat as it modernizes the plot line. A plot that sizzles from page one and keeps cooking until the twists at the end. I can't wait to hear more from the very talented Maleeny."

--Crimespree Magazine

PUBLICITY REVIEWS

"...another knockout performance from Maleeny...[h]e's given us a one-two combo of great reading with his debut novel and now, its sequel, which will only gain him more fans."

--Bookgasm.com

"Rating A-
This is a strong second entry in the series. If you haven't read the first in the series, you should as you get a deeper insight into Sally's character. Sally is for me one of the most interesting characters in mystery fiction. Think a female Hawk or Joe Pike. I would have liked more of Sally in this book, but realize she probably is best used sparingly. I also liked the look at the movie industry, and will look forward eagerly to the next installment in this series."

--Maggie Mason with Deadly Pleasures Magazine

"Oh, yeah, Cape Weathers is back, and this book is one fine read. Five stars..."

--Bookfetish.org

"...a perfect reading experience."

--Tanzey Cutter from Fresh Fiction

"A new San Francisco treat...suggest[s] both the quirky characterizations of Elmore Leonard and the take-it-to-the-mat derring-do of Robert Parker."

--Thrilling Detective

"Just six months after Stealing the Dragon Tim Maleeny gives us another Cape Weathers book that is every bit as fun and exciting. Beating the Babushka is an entertaining entry into a series that offers up a lot of thrills and action and doesn't disappoint."

--Brian on FantasyBookSpot.com

"[A] first-rate private eye novel."

--Mary Helen Becker, freelance mystery reviewer, appeared in the Madison Capital Times Oct. 17, 2007

"...[an] exceptional thriller."

--Hidden Staircase Mystery Books/Mysterious Reviews

"Tim Maleeny is very talented and stands up as an equal to the San Francisco locale established by mystery writer Domenic Stansberry, as he provides the reader with an understanding of the sometimes foggy and interwoven Bay Area communities."

--Paul Anik, I Love A Mystery

"From the opener where movie producer Tom Abrahams flies to his death off the Golden Gate Bridge to the last pages, it's a roller-coaster."

--The Poisoned Pen, Scottsdale, Arizona

"...great action sequences and a complex story arc..."

--Spinetingler Magazine

"Beating the Babushka goes a long way toward establishing Maleeny as one of the new princes of detective fiction."

--BookReporter.com
